Track by track commentaries to Split with Deathbound

1. IDENTIFY WITH THE AGGRESSOR

Anders J: This was one of the first songs from the "Rotting Paradise" writing session that we unveiled publicly, on an almost audible video rehearsal. But the song never ended up on the album. Why? Well, when we were deciding the track list for the album we thought that the album would be more intense and to the point if we left out a couple of tracks. I felt that "Identify with the Aggressor" and "Cold World Paranoia" probably should have gone through the creative filter once more before they were considered finished and felt that they would feel better on their own than together with the other "Rotting Paradise" songs. Despite the slow and weird intro, the song is very intense with something like a hardcore break down in the middle. It's a quite fun song to play due to its variation and it will not certainly rest for good on this 7". The lyrics are, side with "Paradox Lost", the most "researched" I've written for Coldworker. I was listening to a psychologist on a Swedish talkshow and he talked about "idenfication with the aggressor", which wasn't a new term for me but never the less ended up in my mental archive of interesting themes and titles to use for lyrics. I read more about the subject and wrote the lyrics, which obviously could have been better, but it was fun to actually do some real researching.

2. COLD WORLD PARANOIA

Joel: I love this song. It sounds bleak and depressing, yet somehow comforting. The lyrics practically wrote themselves one dark winter day, though I'm still not quite sure of what the hell they mean. I think the title popped into my head and I just started from there. Probably one of my favourites from the "Rotting Paradise"-sessions, and I'm glad to see it finally find its place on this split 7".

Anders J: The sort of semi-melodic chorus riff in this song always makes me think of Dan Swanö's Edge Of Sanity... As with Joel's lyrics this song wrote itself one night. I like the weird timing in the verse and the strange, then heavy middle part. But the part that stands out the most is the short little d-beat part which has a minor similarity to the theme from the classic Swedish tv-show "Vi i 5:an"... Haha!

From Relapse.com

Coldworker has evolved into a finely tuned Swedish death metal machine on its second full-length Rotting Paradise. Rotting Paradise balances modern metal brutality, and distinctly European flourishes of metallic grandeur to form the quintessential Swedish death metal album for a new century of extremity.

From Relapse.com

Sweden's Coldworker storms out of the gates with it's debut The Contaminated Void. Conceived and created by Anders Jakobson (of the legendary Nasum) and his hand-picked selection of burgeoning metal players, Coldworker's razor-sharp attack is destined to send shockwaves through the international extreme scene. The Contaminated Void's fourteen tracks swarm with equal parts crushing riffs, blazing speed, and menacing vocal onslaughts. Outrageously agile guitars balance melodic leads with relentless aggression. From start to finish, The Contaminated Void burns with a ferocity and intensity rarely seen in any genre of metal. Simply stated, Coldworker and The Contaminated Void is among the finest Scandinavian metal this side of the 21st century.
