A question that always came up in interviews was "Why do you write your songs individually and not together?". The answer was always that it was the best way for us to work. We didn't rehearse like a regular band two times a week or whatever, but when we rehearsed we didn't want to spend time writing songs, so we wrote our stuff at home and came to the rehearsal with complete songs. At times we developed songs together but we hardly jammed unless we were fooling around.
I'm not a fan of jamming, but on the other hand that didn't really suit grindcore... Last summer I helped out local stonerrockers Truckfighters with a show when they were inbetween drummers and they wanted to rearrange some songs with some endless jams. I had some trouble getting into this but did what I was told to do.
This past weekend I got very disappointed at one of my favorite bands The Mars Volta when they just jammed their show to pieces. What's wrong with playing songs as they are on the records? Who the fuck want to hear a 30 minute jam version of a killer song? Not me!
